East Bay Lutheran Parish Mission Statement
The East Bay Lutheran Parish “is a non-profit ELCA organization sponsored by congregations in the East Bay. We are guided by Christ’s example and strive to embody God’s grace in the world. Acting out of love for God and neighbor, we are committed to meet people where they are as we seek to address real needs. We provide pastoral care, mentoring and education, inspire volunteers, steward our resources responsibly and maintain a meaningful Lutheran presence through service in our community.”
EBLP History
Since 2003, the East Bay Lutheran Parish has served the people of Oakland and Alameda, California. Five congregations presently comprise the EBLP: Resurrection Lutheran Church, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Church, and United Lutheran Church in Oakland, CA; and Trinity Lutheran Church in Alameda, CA. Each sponsors and provides volunteer support to two ministries.
The East Bay Lutheran Youth Program (EBLYP) is comprised of four youth groups coordinated by the Rev. Craig Minich. The Family Ministry Group is oriented to families with young children (preschool through 2nd grade). There are also Elementary School, Middle School, and Senior High youth programs with participants from the five congregations and beyond.
The Lutheran Ministry to Nursing Homes (LMNH) serves four local nursing facilities: Bay Area Healthcare Center, Fruitvale Healthcare Center, and Willow Tree Nursing Center in Oakland; and Crown Bay Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Alameda. The Rev. Ned O’Donnell and congregational volunteers visit each of the facilities weekly – providing a time of worship, as well as friendly visits and in-depth pastoral care for residents, staff, and their loved ones.
Our Board
Representatives from each of the sponsoring congregations make up the East Bay Lutheran Parish Board of Directors. Our Board Officers are: Matt Werner (St. Paul-Oakland) – President, Elizabeth Madaras (Trinity-Alameda) – Vice President, Beth Munsterman (Trinity-Oakland) – Secretary, and Joanne Schultz (St. Paul-Oakland) – Treasurer.
Our Members-At-Large / Congregational Representatives are: Krister Engdahl (Resurrection-Oakland), Mike Luque (Trinity-Alameda), Ed Marsh (Trinity-Oakland), Stan Booker (United-Oakland), and Cecilia Cunningham (United-Oakland).
